I had to eat out last night and it was a challenge. I passed all the places I frequent and knew they would not be acceptable. I ended up in a diner which normally would work since I can custom my order but this was a small dive of a diner with limited options and so my grilled chicken with grilled veggies was way too oily and the “veggies” were basically onions with a few slivers of green peppers and 3 bits of mushroom. I used a napkin to soak up the excess oil and ate just enough chicken and peppers to pass the time with my friend. I won’t mention the side of fries I did not ask for that sat there unloved and uneaten. I sooo wanted that one little crispy one. Oh yeah, you know what talking about. But I held firm.
When I got to Grand Central I was still hungry and had not eaten enough veggies and protein and discovered a better option. There is a deli-like place on 42nd that has a buffet in the back and some packed salads and stuff. I think it is called HTH and is Korean owned. It’s near the McDonalds close to the station. There I found a small order of kimchi and a packed Cesar salad with dressing on the side. I already had enough protein with the chicken so I ate the leafy greens and the kimchi, as well as just a few bits of diced cucumber and tomato. Much better.
So next time I need to find a salad place or one of these deli-like places that have options. I’m sure there are decent restaurants but I lack the patience and time to locate them and may just not eat for the next 5 weeks. My wallet would appreciate that anyway!
