I still feel I am recuperating from Wednesday’s workout. I try to keep my heart rate below max but last night I pushed harder and forgot the interesting phenomenon where the heart rate increases after one’s stop exerting oneself. So if you push to max and then stop, before the heart rate starts to slow, it will spike. While it’s good to push to that max, going past it has no value, and could be risky depending on health. When I spiked I felt close to passing out but fortunately, my recovery time is pretty fast and I was able to get myself back to safe levels.
This makes me wonder tho. While I try not to let my age (50) dictate my level of activity, as I age I do have to be mindful that my resilience does change over time and that any actual limits I may have in things like heart rate, do decrease with age, even in the best of health. Most of the people doing this challenge are late 20s-late 30s from what I can tell so trying to keep up, may not always be realistic. Or am I falling into the age trap of assuming that is the case?
Regardless, I pushed too hard yesterday and I still feel I am not 100% recovered. I am not sure if my headache is related, but it was what triggered these thoughts.
